Configuration Manager (R) version 3.0 Copyright (C) 1994 Ad Astra Solutions All Rights Reserved NOTE: Don't be frightened by the size of ConfgMgr.Wri -- it's a relatively short document, but it has two imbedded pictures. *** WHY *** If you already know WHY you might need this program, skip down to CHANGES. The purpose of this program is to help maintain multiple sets of AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. There are many reasons WHY you might need to do this. You might want to keep a backup AUTOEXEC and CONFIG around just in case some errant program destroys it. Some people like to keep a "clean" AUTOEXEC and CONFIG around just in case their system begins to behave erratically -- a "clean" version enables them to boot-up with the bare essentials to differentiate between a hardware and a software problem. Other people have various programs which they have occasion to run which are incompatible with everything else, be it a QEMM conflict, network driver, or some other TSR related problem. Finally, there are those who are fortunate enough to own notebook computers and a docking station to convert it into a desktop-type system. When their notebook is docked, they might load a CD-ROM driver, but when it's portable, they don't. Until we know if Windows '95 (aka Chicago) will deliver on the promises of plug and play and conflict resolution, all of the above people have a need to keep around multiple sets of AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files. The common mode of operation is then to decide on the configuration de jour, copy the designated pair of files over AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS, and then reboot the system. Configuration Manager allows you to create, change, and delete these files from within Windows. You can then assign a pair of files to a preset button just like you do with radio stations in your car. And when you push a button, these files are copied to the appropriate place, Windows exits normally, and your system reboots. And if you're a DOS 6.X user, Configuration Manager will build a special AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS which will allow you choose one of your custom configurations at boot- up, without even having to get into Windows. If you've never experienced any of the above scenarios, you probably DON'T have a use for this program. *** CHANGES From Version 2.0 *** - Now supports MSDOS 6.X and Novell DOS 7.0 multi-configurations. Once you setup your Autoexec's and Config's, you'll have access to your custom configurations at boot-up, not just when you're in Windows. - Completely revamped user interface including two additional user-defineable preset buttons (now there's 10!). Innumerable usability "tweaks" to make operation smoother. - Now supports file selection by both drag and drop and double- click. - More flexible configuration file naming and filtering. - Setup screen for easier configuration of user preferences. - Registration screen for easier registration. *** FEATURES *** Key ConfgMgr Features include: - Ability to create, update, delete, and document all of your Autoexec and Config configurations - Ability to assign a configuration to a button for one-click configuration updates - Exit Windows and Reboot your machine upon selecting a new configuration - Ability to choose any custom configuration at DOS boot-up, not just in Windows *** QUICK INSTALLATION *** Configuration Manager is distributed on BBS systems without VBRUN300.DLL for faster downloads. 1) Copy ConfgMgr.EXE and THREED.VBX to any directory on your hard disk. A directory containing other utilities is probably a good choice. 2) Download VBRUN300.DLL and place in your path (or in the directory with ConfgMgr.EXE). Note: If you are running other Visual Basic applications, you may already have VBRUN300.DLL and THREED.VBX in your \Windows\System directory. 3) Double click on CONFGMGR.EXE in the File Manager. That's all there is to installing Configuration Manager. Remember that while ConfgMgr is active, on-line help is always available by pressing the Help button. *** QUICK UNINSTALLATION *** Delete ConfgMgr.EXE and THREED.VBX from your hard disk. Delete ConfgMgr.INI from your Windows directory. Depending upon your usage, you may also delete the following files: autoexec.cm$, config.cm$, cmautoex.bat, cmconfig.sys, and c$autoex.bat. If you don't run any other Visual Basic applications, you can also delete VBRUN300.DLL. *** REQUIREMENTS *** This program requires Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups, VBRUN300.DLL, and THREED.VBX. *** DOCUMENTATION *** Full documentation is located in the file CONFGMGR.WRI and may be viewed from the Windows WRITE.EXE applet. Just double-click CONFGMGR.WRI from the Windows File Manager. *** LIST OF FILES *** The CFGMGR30.ZIP package consists of the following files: README.TXT introductory information (this file) CONFGMGR.EXE required executable THREED.VBX required VBX controls CONFGMGR.WRI complete user guide LICENSE.TXT license agreement/warranty disclaimer ORDER.TXT ordering instructions VENDOR.TXT Shareware Distributor/Disk Vendor information If you did not receive all these files please contact the author: Ad Astra Solutions P.O.
